FP9

Basic device

CONSTRUCTION

The FP9 is a professional record-cutting lathe that translates audio signals into a precisely engraved groove. Designed for uncompromising accuracy, it enables the mechanical transfer of sound from recording to vinyl — either as a master disc for production or as a direct-to-disc cut on a blank record ready for immediate playback.

TURNTABLE

Every component of the FP9 is engineered for stability and sonic integrity. The high-torque turntable maintains a constant rotation speed — typically 33⅓ or 45 RPM, with optional 78 RPM for specialized applications — ensuring consistent pitch and flawless record quality.

Built with meticulous attention to mechanical precision and signal fidelity, the FP9 offers professionals a dependable tool for mastering, archiving, and creative vinyl production.

Where technology meets craftsmanship, the FP9 turns pure audio into a lasting physical experience.

CH9 – THE HEART OF PRECISION

At the core of the FP9 system lies the CH9 cutting head — the true heart of the machine. It converts the electrical audio signal into precise mechanical vibrations, translating sound into the physical language of the groove.

The CH9 is built around a finely balanced assembly of magnets and coils that drive the cutting stylus with exceptional accuracy. Each movement of the stylus reflects the smallest sonic detail, preserving the full depth and dynamics of the original recording.

Depending on the application, the stylus is crafted from diamond for durable, high-precision cuts or sapphire for lacquer cutting. In both cases, it carves the groove into the record blank with unmatched fidelity and control.

Engineered for purity, performance, and longevity, the CH9 transforms energy into artistry — shaping sound at the most fundamental level.

PRECISION GROOVE CONTROL – FEED AND LEAD-SCREW MECHANISM

The feed and lead-screw assembly ensures the precise radial movement of the platter carriage beneath the CH9 cutting head — from the outer edge of the disc toward the center. This controlled motion defines the groove spacing (pitch), a critical factor in both sound quality and recording capacity.

The FP9 offers two pitch control modes:
• Fixed pitch, with a predefined groove spacing for consistent recording layouts.
• Automatic variable pitch, intelligently adjusting the groove distance in real time based on the audio’s preview signal — wider grooves for loud passages, tighter spacing for quieter sections.

This adaptive feed system maximizes both fidelity and recording efficiency, ensuring optimal use of disc surface while maintaining perfect tracking and sonic precision.

Where mechanics meet intelligence, the FP9 delivers total control over every groove.

AUDIO CONTROL & PRECISION – INTEGRATED PREAMP SYSTEM

Within the FP9, the audio preamplifier stage governs and conditions the electrical signals that drive the CH9 cutting head. Designed for absolute precision, it ensures that every modulation of the groove accurately mirrors the original sound source.

A dedicated feedback coil system within the CH9, combined with carefully engineered compensation circuitry and RIAA pre-emphasis, optimizes the cutting behavior across the entire frequency spectrum — subtly reducing low-frequency amplitude and enhancing high-frequency response to achieve ideal groove geometry.

The result is a perfectly balanced cut, maintaining clarity, depth, and dynamics while preserving the integrity of the recording.

Seamlessly integrated with the FP9 architecture, the preamplifier system forms a vital link between electronic precision and mechanical performance — ensuring that what you hear is exactly what you cut.

HOW IT WORKS

AUDIO SIGNAL INPUT – PRECISION PROCESSING

The audio signal — whether sourced from a master tape or a digital file — enters the FP9 through its dedicated audio input, where it is precisely conditioned for cutting.

A built-in 18 kHz low-pass input filter first ensures signal clarity, after which the audio passes through balance and gain controls before reaching the integrated FBCA (Feedback Compensation Amplifier). In a closed-loop system, the FBCA continuously monitors and adjusts the signal, maintaining it at a defined target level with exacting consistency.

Simultaneously, the signal is processed through the internal inverse RIAA equalization, preparing it for optimal groove shaping, before being routed to the external audio power stage.

This meticulous signal path ensures that every nuance of the source material is faithfully translated into the mechanical cut — merging electronic precision with analog artistry.

FP9 Connectors

Once amplified, the audio signal is reintroduced into the FP9, where it is continuously monitored via dB meters and peak LEDs to provide clear, real-time visual feedback.

The signal also passes through built-in protective circuits before reaching the CH9 cutting head, ensuring safe operation while preserving the integrity of every groove.

This combination of precision monitoring and reliable protection guarantees that the cutting process is both accurate and secure, delivering flawless results every time.

CH9 CUTTERHEAD – TRANSFORMING SIGNAL INTO MECHANICAL MOTION

At the heart of the FP9, the CH9 cutting head converts electrical audio signals into precise mechanical movements. Its coils generate magnetic forces that move the cutting stylus both laterally and vertically (for stereo), accurately translating the sound into a physical groove.

The movements of the two coils — representing the left and right channels — are continuously monitored in real time via the CH9’s feedback coils. This data is sent as a correction signal to the internal FBCA (Feedback Compensation Amplifier), ensuring that every modulation is perfectly executed with precision and consistency.

By combining mechanical engineering with real-time electronic feedback, the CH9 delivers flawless groove geometry, capturing the full dynamics and fidelity of the original recording.

GROOVE CUTTING – FROM SIGNAL TO SPIRAL

The rotating turntable precisely carries the record blank beneath the vibrating stylus, creating a continuous spiral groove that faithfully captures the audio signal.

Every nuance of the sound is translated into mechanical motion, resulting in a groove that perfectly reflects the dynamics, depth, and detail of the original recording.

By seamlessly integrating turntable motion, cutting head precision, and real-time feedback, the FP9 ensures consistently flawless and high-fidelity vinyl production.

FEED CONTROL – DYNAMIC GROOVE MANAGEMENT

The FP9 precisely regulates groove spacing in real time, adapting to both the volume and frequency content of the audio. This ensures optimal use of the record surface while maintaining perfect fidelity.

Advanced automation features include:
• Automatic lead-in groove for seamless starting of the record
• Automatic or manual track-marker grooves between titles
• Run-out and final grooves for proper record ending
• Variable pitch control and temporary groove widening (Echo function) for creative effects

With this combination of real-time adaptation and flexible automation, the FP9 delivers consistently accurate, professional-grade vinyl cuts while providing creative control over every aspect of the groove layout.

CHIP EXTRACTION – CLEAN CUTS EVERY TIME

During the cutting process, fine material chips are immediately extracted to maintain a perfectly clean groove surface. The CH9 cutterhead is equipped with a dedicated extraction tube, ensuring that debris is efficiently removed at the source.

When paired with the SU9 extraction system from Reccut-Audio, this process becomes fully automatic and highly efficient, guaranteeing a spotless cutting environment and consistently pristine vinyl surfaces.

By integrating precision cutting with effective chip management, the FP9 ensures both optimal sound quality and reliable long-term operation.
